It must be a sign of the times.
end-of-scenic-route reminded me of this shot.
One thing you might want with you up on the mountain is a good set of body armor. A little thicker than this sign. A helmet might be a good idea as well.

I was showing this pic to a friend of mine that grew up in urban areas on the East Coast, and he was shocked that the sign was full of bullet holes. To me, it would be more unusual to drive out in the country and and find signs with no bullet holes. Especially the 'open range' signs with the cows on them. That's just asking for target practice.
